attending from the same address at the date of admission.
3. Other children who live in the school's priority admission area.
4. Children who live outside the school’s PAA who have an older brother or sister attending from the
same address at the time of admission.
5. Other children who live outside the school’s PAA.
Community and controlled schools will admit children Statements of Special Educational Needs where the school is named in the Statement.
NOTES
(a) Children in priorities 1 above may also be admitted above the Published Admission Number (PAN).
(b) If we cannot agree to requests for admission in priorities 2 to 5 above without exceeding the
PAN, we will give priority up to the PAN to children living nearest the school.
(c) Distance is measured in a straight line from a child’s home address to the school.
Measurements are calculated using seven-figure grid references for each address taken from
Ordnance Survey ADDRESS-POINT® data. This grid reference relates to a point that falls
within the permanent building structure corresponding to the address.
The boundary of the building structure for the address is derived from Ordnance Survey
Land-Line data.
For smaller, residential properties the grid reference denotes a point near the centre of the
building. For larger properties, like schools with, for example, multiple buildings and large
grounds, the grid reference relates to a point inside the main addressable building structure.
The distance calculated is accurate to within 0.1 metres.
(d) ‘Live’ means the child’s permanent home at the date when applications close or, if a
significant house move is involved, the latest reasonable date before the final allocation
of places. It is expected the allocation process for the Reception year group will take place
on 8th March 2010.
(e) For children transferring from First and Middle schools, preference within any of the priorities 2 to
5 above (up to the PAN) will be given to children attending either a first school in the middle
school priority admission area, or a middle school in the high school priority admission area.
(f) A Priority Admission Area means a geographical area determined by Kirklees in consultation with
the governing body of the school.
THE PUBLISHED ADMISSION NUMBER (PAN) FOR RECEPTION AND KEY STAGE 1
We will admit children up to the PAN which is currently 66. However, there is no longer a guaranteed place for any child in any of the above priorities at any Key Stage.
Registration and Admission Procedure - Early Years Unit
Where possible, Kirklees Education Service aims to offer a minimum of three terms part-time nursery education (Lower Foundation) before the start of full-time schooling.
At present our Lower and Upper Foundation Stage children are in an Early Years Unit. This unit is self-contained and occupies one half of the school building. The children remain in the unit for a minimum of three terms or a maximum of six. This provides the stability, continuity and progression which is of paramount importance during a childs’ early stages at school. The children quickly familiarise themselves with the internal work bases and the large outdoor play area and get to know the adults who take care of all their needs.
If a place is required within the Early Years Unit, parents should register their child's name, address and date of birth on a form which the school will supply on request. Part-time places (Lower Foundation) are limited to a maximum of 24 each morning and 24 each afternoon.
Parents are contacted half a term before the beginning of the term in which their child is of an age to be entitled to admission to the Early Years Unit and informed whether or not a place is available. Parents and children will be invited to attend a morning or afternoon session prior to taking up their place. This gives parents and staff an opportunity to meet in a relaxed, informal manner and the children have the opportunity to experience using some of the many different resources available to them.
During the first two weeks of term the new entrants are admitted gradually so that the staff can devote the necessary attention to any child who may experience difficulty in settling into the new surroundings.
We aim to provide a carefully structured, well-balanced curriculum suited to a young child's needs. Unfortunately there are times when the number of part-time places available falls short of those which are required and entry for some children is delayed. Allocation of places is made, in age order to priority admission area applicants. Places are allocated to out of area siblings and out of area applicants in straight line distance order. Admission to part-time in Lower Foundation does not guarantee a full-time place in Upper Foundation.
The Early Years Unit is staffed by three qualified teachers, 2 qualified nursery nurses (N.N.E.B.) and three Early Years support assistants. Additional non-teaching assistance may be given for children who have a Statement of Special Educational Needs.
